Description :

The newly updated edition of David Wondrich’s definitive guide to classic American cocktails. Cocktail writer and historian David Wondrich presents the colorful, little-known history of classic American drinks--and the ultimate mixologist's guide--in this engaging homage to Jerry Thomas, father of the American bar. Wondrich reveals never-before-published details and stories about this larger-than-life nineteenth-century figure, along with definitive recipes for more than 100 punches, cocktails, sours, fizzes, toddies, slings, and other essential drinks, along with detailed historical and mixological notes. The first edition, published in 2007, won a James Beard Award. Now updated with newly discovered recipes and historical information, this new edition includes the origins of the first American drink, the Mint Julep (which Wondrich places before the American Revolution), and those of the Cocktail itself. It also provides more detail about 19th century spirits, many new and colorful anecdotes and details about Thomas's life, and a number of particularly notable, delicious, and influential cocktails not covered in the original edition, rounding out the picture of pre-Prohibition tippling. This colorful and good-humored volume is a must-read for anyone who appreciates the timeless appeal of a well-made drink-and the uniquely American history behind it.

"Others have searched, it is your job to 'research', that is why you are a 'Researcher' . . ." These are the words of my Business Ethics and Law MBA Lecturer. He will further say "Research is like building a brick wall but you cannot build it all alone. Your job as a researcher is to put a piece of brick (your work) on the wall (knowledge), while others will continue to place theirs. With this in perspective, I cannot cover everything in this book, though I wish I could. I will not claim that the content of this book is totally something new. However, I will call it an 'innovation' from my several years of studying already existing literatures, lessons from the lives of successful entrepreneurs, lectures during bachelors of business classes, MBA classes, personal studies, interactions with entrepreneurs and my personal experience. Entrepreneurship is the solution to the economic and political instability in Africa. I have not seen a successful nation where the government succeeded in providing everything for its people. But great economies of the world ride on the back of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs control the world and its government. Their ways are always adhered to because they are job creators; but it is very important to mention that above job creation, they are problem solvers as well as solution providers. Some successful entrepreneurs were mentioned or quoted in this book - men and women who made things happen in spite of difficult situations. And if they can do it out of worst case scenarios, what is your excuse? What I planned to achieve with this book is not to make it an authority or personification of knowledge in entrepreneurship. Rather this book was written with the understanding that reading it is not equivalent to offering professional services to you. With the knowledge got from the book you might as well seek professional services in the areas of your concern. Success is impacting your world with the investment of your personality. That is what I hope to achieve by writing this book, to impact my world with what I believe and have invested myself in, on and with for years. Note: Although there are many mentions of Africa and Nigeria in this book, the knowledge can be applied in any part of the world and it will yield the same result.

Description :

Micah LeMon had one slight problem when he started bartending nearly twenty years ago: he had no idea what he was doing. Mixology, he came to understand, is based on principles that are indispensable but not widely known. In The Imbible, LeMon shares the knowledge he has gained over two decades, so that even beginning bartenders can execute classic cocktails--and riff on those classics to create originals of their own. A good cocktail is never a random concoction. LeMon introduces readers to the principal components of every drink--spirit, sweet, and sour or bitter--and explains the role each plays in bringing balance to a beverage. Choosing two archetypes--the shaken Daiquiri and the stirred Manhattan—he shows how bartenders craft delicious variations by beginning with a good foundation and creatively substituting like ingredients. Lavishly illustrated in color and laid out in an inviting and practical way, The Imbible also provides a thorough overview of the bartender’s essential tools and techniques and includes recipes for over forty drinks--from well executed classics to original creations exclusive to this book. Both a lesson for beginners and a master class for more experienced bartenders, LeMon’s book opens the door to endless variations without losing sight of the true goal--to make a delicious cocktail.

Embracing the sky, imbibing the air-these are the tools Judith Alexander Brice has chosen to grapple with illness and pain. "Think of robins, their trill of shine," she urges us, in our battles to combat hardship, time's suffering. This collection, in lyrical free verse, is a depiction of the author's fierce efforts as she holds on to nature's hope and beauty in the face of her own pain and loss, and nature's "errant tides." Yet, she assures us, "time moves on, blossoms/ to peach-[even] tugs on all yearnings yet to come."

-Produced in nine Mexican states, mezcal has gained popularity among north-of-the-border cocktailians who have come to appreciate the complexity and tradition of this smoky, flavorful spirit. Mezcal can be made from any of fifty varieties of agave that are often harvested in the wild, and always roasted prior to fermentation, then ground with stones and animal power, and distilled in clay or copper pots. It is truly the most artisanal of spirits. The varieties of agave and the variations in manufacturing processes yield complexities not found in mezcal's more common cousin, tequila (which by law is made only from blue agave). For these reasons, enthusiasts make cogent arguments that mezcal is more akin to wine, with considerations such as varietals and terroir coming into play. Not to mention that the majority of this that's spirit available in the US is still produced using small-batch methods handed down for centuries. Mezcal brings you a smartly written and beautifully produced primer on mezcal history and production, as a well as a guide to twenty-plus of the most common agave varietals used in production, and a tasting guide, complete with room for your own notes. It doesn't stop there, though: the expertly curated recipe section offers up a selection of over forty craft cocktails that take advantage of mezcal's unique qualities. Throughout, author Emma Janzen, the digital editor at Imbibe magazine and a mezcal devotee, busts mezcal myths, unravels its mysteries, interviews producers, before disclosing tasting tips readers won't find elsewhere---
