Social Entrepreneurs in Latin America face a series of challenges given the complexity of the region. Using as a conceptual support Bourdieu's career capitals this study seeks to understand which career capitals social entrepreneurs in Latin America have to show in response to the Latin American context. To address this research question, 10 interviews with Latin American Social Entrepreneurs from 5 different countries were analyzed using in vivo coding. Results show that social entrepreneurs in Latin America develop their activities in a complex environment characterized by sexism, lack of equality, corruption, institutional voids, lack of government support and a strong support from families. Also results showed that to overcome this reality social entrepreneurs in the region adopt an institutional entrepreneurship role, and possess unique career capitals: Cultural Capitals (5), Social Capitals (2), Symbolic Capitals (4) and Economic Capital (1). Additionally, as a result of the combination of the elements mentioned above, sustainability was identified as the predominant characteristic of social ventures in Latin America. Further qualitative research is suggested to validate the findings of this study. Given the limited scope of it, this represents an exploratory study of Latin American social entrepreneurs' career capitals.

Native to a high valley in the Andes of Ecuador, the Otavalos are an indigenous people whose handcrafted textiles and traditional music are now sold in countries around the globe.
