Description :

You were born to make an impact in this world and you know it. You feel it deep down in your bones. Apathy is your nemesis and your hunger to change the world keeps you up at night. But no matter how deep this hunger growls, we can only make a meaningful impact if we are rooted in Jesus. And here’s the thing: God is not interested in developing your vision first. He is interested in developing you. In Rooted, Banning Liebscher takes us to the life of David to show how God expands our root system in the hidden places before leading us to where we all desire to go, the visible world. It was in a field of prayerful devotion, a season of serving, and a cave of community that God prepared David for his crown, the same way God prepares us. Take a look at your own life. Are you embracing God’s process, the sometimes painstaking and maddening process? When we can release ourselves to God we will find that we can thrive while He develops us, rather than succumb to discouragement. Whatever your age or season of life, it takes immense courage to slow down enough to let God grow a root system in your life so that you can bear fruit that remains. You are where you are because God has planted you there. Discover what it looks like to embrace His process so you can do what He has called you to, change the world.

Description :

Offers a Christian proposal for radical social transformation. / Daniel Izuzquiza here proposes a vibrant interdisciplinary theology from the unique perspective of the "least of these" the poor and extends an invitation to mystical, political, and ecclesial engagement. / In Rooted in Jesus Christ Izuzquiza analyzes the language of theology, the role of social sciences, the transformation of culture, and the church s approach to politics. To that end he dialogues with some of the main theological proposals of the late twentieth century, from Latin American liberation theology to radical theology in the English-speaking world to European political theology. He also offers a more systematic development of radical ecclesiology, analyzing the sources of the proposal as alternative Christian practices. The result is a groundbreaking call to action and change for the entire church. / In this groundbreaking book Daniel Izuzquiza offers a vibrant Christian proposal for radical social transformation. His wide-ranging study explores the relationship between church and society by dialoguing critically and constructively with major theological currents of our day. Izuzquiza s interdisciplinary theology from the perspective of the poor is truly radical at once in a political, ecclesial, and mystical sense. / We need a way forward beyond our well-worn and tired debates. Daniel Izuzquiza offers just that. His splendid book engages and assesses postliberalism, radical orthodoxy, Anabaptist witness, liberation theology, and the role of the Jesuits in Christianity in order to show the need for a radical ecclesiology that is unapologetically Christocentric, socially attuned, and ecumenically generous. For anyone not invested in the current structures of power in the church, university, or nation-state, this book offers wisdom. For those of us so invested, this book shows a viable alternative preserving the good and challenging the rest. We should all pay attention. D. Stephen Long / author of Speaking of God: Theology, Language, and Truth / I am happy to recommend Daniel Izuzquiza s Rooted in Jesus Christ: Toward a Radical Ecclesiology to serious readers in the English-speaking world who may have dared to wonder if the traditional church of our time is what Jesus really had in mind. And if not, what might a church rooted in the Christ of the Incarnation look like? . . . Rather than superficially inspiring his readers, Izuzquiza brings us face-to-face with what the body of Christ could be by responding more fully to the truly amazing grace of God that has come to us in Jesus of Nazareth. Traditional Catholics and conservative Protestants alike as well as revolutionaries and political activists for that matter will be confronted and challenged here. . . . And, rather than concerning ourselves so exclusively with tactics and strategies, Izuzquiza reminds us of the importance of simply being the church, radically rooted in Jesus Christ. This book is about how you can be rooted deeply in Christ. Here are some of the benefits you can look forward to as you become rooted in Christ: Stability. People who are deeply rooted will withstand the storms of life. They are like the wise man that built his house on a rock. They are not shaken by the storms of life. They are not "tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting" (Ephesians 4:14). Continual nourishment. Rooted people have a deep source of spiritual nourishment which continually feeds them. They are like a tree, planted by the streams of water which bears its fruit in season (Psalm 1). Joy. Jesus said, "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full"( John 15:10-11). The happiest people on the planet are people who are rooted in Christ. Fruitfulness. Rooted plants are fruit-bearing plants. "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5). Jesus didn't say we would be even more fruitful if we abide in Christ. He said that without Christ we can do nothing. Rooted in Christ, we will bear much fruit. It is an all or nothing deal. Peace. There is peace in knowing that your roots go down deep. There is peace in knowing you can withstand every drought and storm. "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27). The Bible describes it as a peace that passes all understanding (Philippians 4.6, 7). Assurance of our salvation. God's will for every believer is that you have absolute confidence in your salvation. God wants you to know that you will go to Heaven when you die. Rooted people know. They don't just hope; they know. Spiritual growth. You can't grow up unless your roots go down. Only rooted people grow. "That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height-to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God" (Ephesians 3:17-19). Purpose. When our roots go down deep, we discover why God put us here. We discover that "We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10). We discover what good works God has prepared in advance for us to do. There is nothing like living life on purpose. Only rooted people know this joy. Being rooted has many benefits: stability, continual nourishment, joy, fruitfulness, peace, assurance of salvation, and purpose. How do we become rooted?

Description :

This is not just a book just to be READ - it is a book to be SAID! "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]." Proverbs 18:21 If I could hand you a key that is guaranteed to change your life and circumstances; a principle that places the supernatural power of God on tap for every situation in your life and ministry, would you want to know what it is? Sometimes people shroud the simplicity of the gospel in a mess of religious rhetoric and theological confusion. Thankfully the Scriptures make plain and simple how we are to engage with God and receive and release His transforming power consistently in our everyday lives. In this practical Spirit-filled series of books, pastor and Bible teacher, David Lee Martin, unpacks the amazing truth concerning the power of the words that you speak, and shows clearly how you can apply this truth to change your world, and the world of those around you. This Edition: COLOSSIANS The book of Colossians is a book of putting off the old, and putting on the new. The truths you are about to declare will uproot all that hinders you in your walk with God and with others, and firmly establish your present and true identity in Christ. Take the words on the following pages, salt them with your own thanksgiving, and let God's love and grace touch the very depths of your being. The Benefits of Applying the Word As with several of my other books, this one is intended to be applied. It's words and message are impotent if they are not vigorously acted upon. The 'His Word My Word' series of books take eternal truth and shape it for application right here and now! This series of books will train your tongue by planting the Word in your heart, and harnessing your testimony (the confession of your mouth) with the law of liberty - the perfect Word of our Father. Just a few the benefits you can expect as you act on what you read, and become a doer of the work include: -It renews the mind, building into your consciousness and expectation new truths to live by. -It moulds your vocabulary, harnessing your tongue to speak only those things God (and you) desire for your life. -It conforms your thoughts and words to His thoughts and Words. -It gives expression to the mind of Christ in any and all situations. -It raises our perspective from earthly to heavenly, from below circumstances to above them. -It banishes wrong thinking and emotions, replacing them with God's own thoughts - our emotions will always follow our thinking, and our thinking will follow the deposit in our heart, and the words of our mouths. -It gives you an actionable principle you can apply to combat any adversity you face with confidence. -It establishes Godly boundaries in your life. -It overcomes the devil's plans and purposes because you are never in agreement with him, and they cannot be established. -It develops new pictures of ourselves, ones that are shaped by God's unchanging love for us. -It equips us with the necessary weapons for the Holy Spirit to bring to our remembrance what is needed to overcome, any time our mind, body or spirit come under attack. -It brings every thought into captivity and conformity to Christ, resulting in increased spiritual authority in the spirit realm and in relationships and ministry. -It is health to our flesh and strength to our bones. There are many more wonderful benefits that flow from disciplining ourselves to speak the Word only, but I am sure that you already you agree, any investment we need to make putting this into practice is far outweighed by the promised returns. It is truly life changing, and a spiritual principle that will stand the test of time and every challenge that is thrown at it.

The word "theology," at its most basic definition, means "words about God." We are all theologians since we all talk about God. We all have a theology, and it's either good or bad. Good theology is the system of roots that keeps our tree of faith vibrant and alive. It keeps us grounded, centered, and yet growing. And when we are rooted, we won't remain stagnant. In Rooted, Medders and Smith make theology practical for Christians who want to grow in their faith.Rooted covers the most basic and crucial areas of theology: the Trinity, Scripture, redemption in Christ, and eternity. The authors bring the deeper things of God to light, but without the complexities often associated with theological works. Whether you read this book on your own or with a group with friends, you will have a better understanding of theology and why it matters for your life.

Then we struggle and feel selfish and guilty when we say no, grow weary, or snap at someone out of sheer exhaustion. Is this what God desires? But what if we chose a more soul-full way? Rest Now offers permission to breathe. It exposes the lies that distract, tire, and bully us, so we don't strive for rest but love from it, like Jesus did. Learn how to - create boundaries that allow you to overflow with love - say no so you don't hate yourself later - ditch passive-aggressive behaviors in favor of healthy conversations - embrace permission-giving thoughts to create mental space for God
