The Groundbreaking Strengths Assessment from the Leader of the Strengths Revolution In the years since the publication of First, Break All the Rules and Now, Discover Your Strengths, millions have come to the simple but powerful realization that to get the most out of people, you must build on their strengths. And yet, as Marcus Buckingham astutely points out, though the strengths-based approach is now conventional wisdom, the tools and systems inside organizations—performance appraisals, training programs, and succession planning systems—remain stubbornly remedial and exclusively focused on measuring skills, finding gaps, and attempting to plug them. StandOut 2.0 is a revolutionary book and tool that enables you to identify your strengths, and those of your team, and act on them. Standing out is no longer optional Too many people believe that if they keep their heads down and work hard, they’ll be recognized on the merits of their work. But that’s simply not true anymore. “Safe” jobs disappear daily, and the clamor of everyday life drowns out ordinary contributions. To make a name for yourself, to create true job security, and to make a difference in the world, you have to share your unique perspective and inspire others to take action. But in a noisy world where it seems everything’s been said—and shouted from the rooftops—how can your ideas stand out? Fortunately, you don’t have to be a genius or a worldwide superstar to make an impact. Drawing on interviews with more than fifty thought leaders in fields ranging from business to genomics to urban planning, Dorie Clark shows how these masters achieved success and how anyone—with hard work—can do the same. Whether it’s learning to ask the right questions, developing and building on an expert niche, or combining disparate fields to get a new perspective, Clark outlines ways to develop the ideas that set you apart. Of course, having a breakthrough insight is only half the battle. If you really want to share your ideas, you have to find a way to build an audience, communicate your message, and inspire others to embrace your vision. Starting small is fine; Clark provides a step-by-step guide to help you leverage your existing networks, attract new people to your cause, and, ultimately, build a community around your ideas. Featuring vivid examples based on interviews with influencers such as Seth Godin, David Allen, and Daniel Pink, Clark shows you how to break through and ensure that your ideas get noticed. Becoming a thought leader in your company or in your profession is the ultimate career insurance. But—even more important—it’s also a chance to change the world for the better. Whatever your cause, perspective, or point of view, the world can’t afford for the best ideas to remain buried inside you. Whether it’s how to improve the educational system or how to make your company more efficient, your ideas matter. The world needs your insights, and it’s time to be bold.

Description :

An authoritative, “must-read” (Keith Hernandez) biography of Hall of Fame pitching legend Tom Seaver, still the greatest player ever to wear a Mets jersey, by a journalist who knew him well. He was called Tom Terrific for a reason. Tom Seaver is “among the greatest pitchers of all time” (Bob Costas). He is one of only two pitchers with 300 wins, 3,000 strikeouts, and an ERA under 3.00. He was a three-time Cy Young award winner, twelve-time All Star, and was elected to baseball’s Hall of Fame with the highest percentage ever at the time. Popular among players and fans, Seaver was fiercely competitive but always put team success ahead of personal glory. Born in Fresno, California, Seaver signed with the New York Mets in 1967, leading them to their stunning 1969 World Series victory. After a legendarily lopsided trade, he joined the Cincinnati Reds, then later played for the White Sox and the Red Sox before ending his career following the 1986 season. After his playing days, Seaver retired back to California to establish a successful vineyard. The in 2013, a recurrence of Lyme disease severely affected his memory, which Madden was the first to report. In 2019, Seaver’s family announced that he had been diagnosed with dementia and was withdrawing from public life. Tom Seaver died on August 31, 2021. Madden began following Seaver’s career in the 1980s. Seaver came to trust Madden so completely that, eager to return to New York from Chicago, he asked Madden to explore a possible trade to the Yankees which never materialized. Drawing in part on their long relationship, Madden “has crafted a biography as terrific as the subject” (Jane Leavy, New York Times bestselling author of Sandy Koufax: A Lefty’s Legacy).

When it comes to buying a mobile phone, choosing a university, selecting a software system, or making any other purchase in a crowded marketplace, many consumers feel they are faced with a 'sea of sameness'. The websites and social media streams of the various companies all seem to blur into one, with the same phrases and promises repeated over and over again. Stand-out Marketing presents original research which compares the content produced by over 30 organizations in leading sectors to quantify this effect, proving not only that the 'sea of sameness' exists, but documenting its precise size and nature. On the back of this unique and fascinating research, Stand-out Marketing traces the problem back to its roots and offers a proven, seven-step framework to help companies rise above it and differentiate themselves from the competition. By re-focusing on the customer and their needs, and re-shaping the capabilities, attitudes and behaviours of the organization accordingly, the framework will help companies stand out and deliver genuine value. Over time, this value will convert to growth and profits for any business.

Description :

This career-spanning artist's book presents an alternate history of the photography of New York-based photographer Lucas Blalock (born 1978), featuring new images and previously unseen versions of existing artworks. Employing his signature style of unconcealed digital alterations, including erasures and drawings, and working in both color and black and white, Blalock emphasizes what is absent or obliterated in his manipulated portraits, scenes and still lives, often with a deadpan humor. In A Grocer's Orgy, the artist's layout of such images brings to the forefront the underlying themes, formal connections and art-historical reference points that are often overlooked in the context of his exhibitions.

Companies routinely claim that 'Our People Are Our Greatest Asset', but research data shows that in practice most people do not actually use their assets much at work. This books aims to change that. When employees learn how to truly apply their greatest strengths at work, they turbo-charge their career potential and everybody wins. Companies find that their employees are more productive, their teams are more effective, their organization is more innovative and, accordingly, their customers are more engaged. In FIRST, BREAK ALL THE RULES, Marcus Buckingham proved the link between engaged employees and more profitable bottom lines and highlighted great managers as the catalyst. In NOW, DISCOVER YOUR STRENGTHS he explained how to sort through your patterns of wishes, abilities, thoughts and feelings and, with the help of a web-based profile, identify your five most dominant talents. In GO, PUT YOUR STRENGTHS TO WORK he shows you how to take the crucial next step. How to seize control of your time at work and, in the face of a world that doesn't much care whether you are playing to your strengths, how to rewrite your job description under the nose of your boss.

Few professional activities are as nerve-wracking as networking. There’s the paralyzing prospect of entering a room full of strangers. The awkward introductions and stilted small talk. The concern that “networking” means you have to exploit others for personal gain – or might appear that way. It’s no wonder so many talented professionals eschew networking altogether. Unfortunately, that means they’re limiting their chances of making the kind of great personal and professional connections that can expand their worldview, enrich their lives, and – yes – even lead to new business opportunities. That’s why it’s time to reclaim networking. It doesn’t have to be the province of users and takers; instead, as Forbes and Harvard Business Review contributor Dorie Clark makes clear in this short and actionable guide, networking done right is nothing like the stereotype. It’s not about making shallow, insincere connections and filling your wallet with business cards. Instead, the real goal is to turn brief encounters into mutually-beneficial and lasting friendships—in both your personal and professional life. Drawing on wisdom from her own experience and from experts like psychologist Robert Cialdini, marketer Michael Katz, and authors Judy Robinett and Keith Ferrazzi, Clark provides valuable insight on how to be a good networker, including concrete tips on how to: - Turn initial small talk into meaningful exchanges - Unlock the power of social media as a networking tool - Transform casual online contacts into real-world connections - Make the most of conferences - Set a schedule for keeping in regular touch with your network - Repair and strengthen troubled relationships - Create your own events and become a connector Whether you’re an introvert or extrovert, and whether you currently relish or loathe making new connections, Clark will teach you the strategies you need to make networking fun, joyful, and enriching.
