A family legend of hidden treasure mingles with the mist over the shores of Loch Baille… But it’s not the cache of gold dating back to Culloden that Jack Kensington claims when he arrives in the Highlands; it’s the house he won in a London card game from a luckless Scotsman. Stunned to learn that her wastrel brother wagered their family estate, Isobel Rose must find a way to save her home and the people she loves…even if it means accepting a loveless marriage. Or perhaps not so loveless? Isobel unlocks the secrets of desire in the arms of the mysterious and handsome Englishman, but a series of “accidents” makes her fear that she will soon be a widow instead of a wife. As their hunt for lost riches turns into the search for a killer, Isobel fights her attraction to the man who stole her birthright…but can Jack convince Isobel that he can provide a home for her heart, and a love to treasure?

Cigar boxes. Refrigerator doors. Scrapbooks and sock drawers and top shelves. These are the places we store our treasures–the keepsakes that tell the story of whom and what we’ve loved, how we’ve lived, and what matters most to us. God is a collector, too, whose treasures are tucked securely into the pages of his book: a golden bell here, an olive leaf there, a scarlet thread, a blood-stained cloth, a few grains of barley. Each of these saved artifacts reveals a facet of his heart and tells the story of a Father whose most precious possession is…us. In Treasured, Leigh McLeroy considers tangible reminders of God’s active presence and guides us in discovering evidence in our own lives of his attentive love.

Originally established March 30, 1910, as Mississippi Normal College, The University of Southern Mississippi was built on 120 acres of cutover timber land and created to provide training for public school teachers. Chester M. Morgan outlines the evolution of the institution and tells the story of a gracious heritage born of adversity and nurtured by a century of perseverance and determination. From the success of its graduates and the passion of its faculty to its ability to meet and conquer challenges brought by scarce state funding, world wars, social movements, and natural disasters, the author captures the persistent spirit and strength that is the unchanging force behind the university's success. Following the institution's transition from Mississippi Normal College (1912-1924), to State Teachers College (1924-1940), to Mississippi Southern College (1940-1962), to its current designation as The University of Southern Mississippi (1962-present), the story captures every element and facet of campus life. From academics and arts to athletics and administration, the author presents a rich and varied look at how Southern Miss became the modern comprehensive university it is today.

Description :

This is the true account of my personal journey to freedom. I truly believe that "freedom" is the most valuable commodity to us as human beings. For many of us, freedom comes with a huge price tag. I was separated from my family as a teenager in order to escape from the communist-governed Vietnam. This escape meant crossing the South China Sea. There were more than 165 people on a small wooden fishing boat; each hoping to survive and reach freedom. Unfortunately, my first attempt failed. I was captured and locked up in jail for eight months. Although my second attempt succeeded, I traveled 14 days at sea with no food and water and was robbed 21 times by sea pirates. Through that appalling journey, women were raped and people were killed. Hope was the only element providing us with the energy to move forward toward that freedom land. I grew up in a wonderful family filled with love and care, just like many of you. I never thought that I would one day face so much turmoil and hardship in my life. Our property was confiscated by the government. My father was thrown in jail for a year and was accused of being a capitalist by the North Vietnamese government. My mother's life was turned upside down dealing with all the tragic events occurring among us. Our family was never the same after South Vietnam was defeated in 1975. I believe that I have earned my freedom through suffering many atrocious experiences, sadness, sorrow, and humiliation throughout many years of my life. Nevertheless, living in the United States of America today, with my total freedom, made it all worth it!
